So, the House just passed that health care bill that everyone's been ticked about, mostly due to the 1000 something pages and the unpleasant little nuggets of joy the politicians managed to sneak in there (public funding for abortion anyone?)
The problem is, most polls show that Americans are against the thing as it stands, so why did an unpopular and unfinished bill manage to sneak on through the House? The way I see it is that it's another example of the governments growing disconnection to the people it supposedly represents. What's the point of having a representative government when all the representatives do is pander to interest groups in an attempt to appear more "progressive" when their constituents are shouting at them at the top of their lungs "NO YOU FOOLS, YOU'LL DOOM US ALL!".
It's like the senators and congressmen we've elected are trying to live up to that old joke about only listening to the people around election time.
So. Where to from here? Maybe the health care bill will work out fine and I'll have freaked out for nothing. And then maybe I'll get that GT 500 I've always wanted with a nuclear reactor in place of a gas tank.
You don't drop 1.5 trillion with such a huge deficit out there, especially after having smacked down a fat wad of bills thanks to that oh-so-effective stimulus package.
What does a people do, when their supposed representatives don't represent them anymore and basically sit in their positions for life? Well, that Second Amendment isn't there to protect hunters. It's the ultimate failsafe. What chance does the government stand against an armed and angry population? What will they do when the people finally have enough? (aside from make teabagger jokes and call their opponents 'Nazis.)
Like I said before, I don't want a second civil war. One was enough. But frankly, the way we're headed and have been heading since the late eighties, I'd say it's only a matter of time. You can only fail a people so many times before they say "screw it, imma punch you in the face."
Now, I honestly can't stand it when somebody whines about a problem without offering a solution. So here we go.
Non-representative Representatives: Impose a term limit for Senators and Congressmen. The temptation to accept bribes for votes can't be there if they're at the end of their term limit.
Health care: Go out and evaluate the people without care. Illegal alien? Sorry, you can't have any until you become a legal citizen. Can afford it but don't have it? Screw you cheapskate, go buy health care. Can't afford it? Medicaid. That's right, THERE'S ALREADY A SYSTEM FOR THAT! If anything, just expand the Medicaid system so that it covers more people. We can't take the tax strain of having to cover every single American out there.
A corrupt government: Resurrect Ronald Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt. Have them purge Washington DC with eye-lasers.
Or if all else fails, armed rebellion.
Regardless, the old shotgun is oiled and my ammo stash is stocked. Just in case.

Maybe next time.
